Mercedes certainly dropped some good news for luxury enthusiasts with the release of the ultra luxurious Maybach EQS and the SL680 Monogram Series for the Indian market, and it looks like the performance enthusiasts are next in line. This weekend, the German automaker will be launching the AMG GT63 and GT63 Pro.
These bi-turbo V8-powered coupes will be the flagship AMGs sold in India and will only be available to a total of 8 units.
GT63
While the AMG GT63 looks pretty similar to its previous generation model, one shouldn’t make the mistake of confusing it with an old model. To begin with, the new GT63 is larger, taller, and wider, along with a 70mm longer wheelbase. The coupe also comes in a 2+2 seating layout, unlike the previous 2-seat layout. There are some minor tweaks here and there to enhance performance.
Stepping inside the GT63 is a familiar sight for those who have been in an AMG SL 55. You see the same 12.3-inch instrument panel and 11.9-inch portrait-oriented infotainment display along with features like the AMG-spec steering wheel and sculptured front sport seats with integrated headrests.
Powering the GT63 is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, producing a massive 585 hp and 800 Nm of torque. Mercedes’ 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system sends power to all four wheels as the powertrain comes paired to a 9-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The German automaker claims that the GT63 can sprint from 0 to 100 kph in 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 315 kph.
GT63 Pro
The AMG GT63 Pro takes performance to another level. While the coupe looks pretty similar to the GT63 when it comes to dimensions, the swanky paint job and decals do give it an identity of its own. To optimise performance, the GT63 Pro also boasts bigger brakes, lightweight wheels, and better tyres than the GT63.
Where the GT63 Pro excels is in performance. Despite boasting the same V8 engine as the GT63, the GT63 Pro makes 612 hp and 850 Nm of torque, an increase of 27 hp and 50 Nm. This allows the coupe to sprint from 0 to 200 kph in 10.9 seconds, making it 0.5 seconds quicker. The top speed also stands at 317 kph.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4Matic+ and the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ will be available to purchase from June 27 in limited numbers and are expected to start from a price tag of Rs 3 Crore.
