Maruti Suzuki's First E100 Flex-Fuel Vehicle To Be Revealed on June 5

Maruti Suzuki is set to launch the country's first flex-fuel vehicle capable of running on up to 100% ethanol (E100) on World Environment Day, June 5, 2026, in Delhi.

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari made the announcement, highlighting it as a major step toward reducing oil imports, lowering emissions, and supporting farmers through ethanol production.

Nitin Gadkari said,

“Vehicles with such flex-fuel engines are going to be introduced on a large scale soon. On the occasion of Environment Day this year, there is a programme in Delhi where Maruti Suzuki will launch vehicles running 100% on ethanol.”

The vehicle will most likely be a flex-fuel version of the Fronx, which was showcased in the 2025 Mobility Show and is capable of running on up to E100 fuel.

Maruti could also launch the WagonR Flex Fuel Vehicle, which builds on Maruti's earlier WagonR flex-fuel prototype shown in 2022 in Delhi for E20-E85 blends. A new model could feature significant upgrades to the engine and fuel system for full E100 compatibility.

However, we can't say for sure whether this will be a passenger car or a commercial vehicle.

Key potential benefits include lower running costs (ethanol is cheaper), reduced pollution, and alignment with India's rapid transition to ethanol blending program (already at E20). This move could push other manufacturers to start preparing flex fuel vehicles as well.
