Delhi Petrol Price Crosses ₹102 Per Litre After Multiple Hikes

Petrol in Delhi now sells at ₹102.12 per litre after oil companies increased the rate by ₹2.61 on Monday, marking the fourth hike in 11 days and pushing the cumulative rise to ₹7.35 per litre since 15 May.

This means a 35-litre hatchback tank now costs about ₹257 more than at the start of May, though Monday’s hike alone adds about ₹91 per full tank. For delivery riders, the monthly impact could run into several hundred rupees or more, depending on mileage and working days.

The cause, though, is not as straightforward as rising crude. Global crude oil has crossed $120 per barrel due to supply risks driven by the conflict in West Asia, raising concerns for India, which imports 88% of its crude, to pass on costs quickly.

Unlike the stable price periods seen in recent years, these repeated daily revisions leave no time for families to cut other spending.

Also, such sharp increases could reduce non-essential travel in Delhi-NCR and raise goods transport costs, which may feed into higher prices for essentials such as vegetables and milk in the coming weeks.

Some commuters may look for cheaper alternatives, including public transport, if fuel prices continue to rise.
