Simple Energy Wave Overview

The Simple Wave marks Simple Energy's move into the family scooter segment, following the more performance-oriented One. Instead of chasing outright performance, the Wave puts more emphasis on things that matter in daily use, particularly storage, range and ease of use.
Its biggest talking point is the amount of storage. There is a 63-litre underseat compartment, a 3-litre glovebox and a 4-litre side-mounted storage box called the Pill. Simple Energy claims the latter is an industry first, and together the three compartments give the Wave 70 litres of storage.
The top-spec Wave Plus gets a 5 kWh battery and a 6.4 kW PMSM motor. It has an IDC range of 243 km and a top speed of 90 km/h. The rest of the range uses 3.7 kWh, 2.7 kWh and 2.2 kWh batteries, with claimed IDC ranges of 171 km, 132 km and 110 km respectively.
Unlike most electric scooters in India, the Wave uses a chain-drive transmission instead of a hub motor. The battery and motor are rated IP67, while braking is handled by a front disc and rear drum with CBS.
There are six versions across the Wave S, Wave and Wave Plus ranges. Deliveries are set to begin in the last week of September.
Battery and Motor
Battery and Motor
The Wave uses a PMSM motor and chain-drive transmission across the range. The Wave and Wave Plus get the larger 6.4 kW motor, which Simple Energy claims produces 179 Nm of wheel torque and takes the scooter from 0 to 40 km/h in 3.3 seconds. The entry-level Wave S EBN gets a smaller 4.5 kW motor.
Battery capacity varies between 2.2 kWh and 5 kWh depending on the version. The 5 kWh Wave Plus has a claimed IDC range of 243 km, while the 3.7 kWh and 2.7 kWh versions are rated at 171 km and 132 km. The 2.2 kWh entry model has a claimed range of 110 km. Top speed is 90 km/h on the Wave Plus.
Every version gets Eco, EcoX and Ride modes, while the higher-spec variants add a Sport mode. The Wave Plus also supports fast charging, taking the battery from 0 to 80 percent in a claimed 2 hours 15 minutes. A 750W portable charger is supplied across the range for home charging.
design
design
The Wave has a rounded design with flowing lines and a dolphin-inspired theme, according to Simple Energy. The bodywork uses a wave motif on the side panels, while the mirrors and tail-fin shaped grab handles continue the same theme. The 920 mm seat gives the scooter a long, low-slung profile.
Up front, there is a full-LED headlamp with a smile-shaped DRL that runs across the width of the front. Welcome and ambient lighting come on when the scooter is unlocked. The rear gets an LED taillamp and LED turn indicators. The 4-litre Pill storage compartment is integrated into the left side of the body.
The Wave uses a tubular steel chassis with telescopic front suspension and progressive twin rear shock absorbers. It rides on 12-inch alloy wheels, with 175 mm of ground clearance and a 1,347 mm wheelbase. Seat height is 775 mm, while the scooter can wade through up to 300 mm of water. TFT versions get a 7-inch colour display, while EBN versions use an InfiniteBlack display.
The Wave is offered in Polar Blue, Twilight Black, Coral Red, Pearl White, Dolphin Grey and Forest Green. Colour availability depends on the variant, although the Wave Plus gets all six options.
safety
safety
The Simple Wave does not have a Bharat NCAP or global crash safety rating at the time of launch. All versions use a front disc and rear drum setup with CBS, while higher variants get GripSense traction control, which monitors rear-wheel movement and intervenes when it detects wheel slip.
There are also a few electronic safety features aimed at everyday riding. Drop Safe cuts motor power if the scooter detects a fall, while Super Hold keeps it stationary on slopes and basement ramps without the rider having to keep the brake pressed. Theft and tow alerts can send notifications through the Simple Connect app if the scooter is moved or tampered with.
The vehicle, battery and motor are covered by a three-year or 30,000 km warranty. Buyers can also opt for an extended battery and motor warranty covering five years or 50,000 km.
competition
competition
The Simple Wave goes up against family-focused electric scooters such as the Ather Rizta, TVS iQube ST and Bajaj Chetak.
The Ather Rizta has the advantage of an established electric scooter range, a mature connected system, regular OTA updates and access to Ather Grid fast chargers. The Wave's biggest advantage is storage, with 70 litres compared with the Rizta's 34 litres. Its top-spec version also has a higher claimed IDC range, while the 300 mm water-wading rating is something Ather does not officially claim for the Rizta.
The TVS iQube ST has a claimed IDC range of 212 km and benefits from TVS's extensive service network across India. Simple Energy currently has 75 outlets across 63 cities. The Wave Plus has the higher claimed range at 243 km and offers considerably more storage, with 70 litres against the iQube ST's 32 litres. It also gets GripSense traction control, which is not offered on the iQube ST.
The Bajaj Chetak has the advantage of Bajaj's extensive service reach and a familiar name among traditional scooter buyers. The Wave focuses more heavily on storage and range, with up to 70 litres of storage and a higher claimed range across its comparable battery options. It also gets the Pill side-storage compartment, which is not currently offered on its direct rivals.
Simple Energy Wave FAQs
What is the Simple Wave, and how does it differ from Simple Energy's previous products?
−The Simple Wave is Simple Energy's first family-oriented scooter, a deliberate shift away from the performance-focused Simple One. Where the One targeted enthusiast buyers with top speed and range, the Wave prioritises storage, comfort, and everyday practicality for family use.
How many models are in the Simple Wave lineup?
+Six models across three trim lines: Wave S EBN, Wave S TFT, Wave EBN, Wave TFT, Wave Plus, and one additional Wave S EBN configuration: covering four battery sizes from 2.2 kWh to 5 kWh.
What is the IDC-certified range of the Simple Wave?
+The Wave Plus claims 243 km, the Wave TFT and EBN models claim 171 km, the Wave S TFT and Wave S EBN claim 132 km, and the entry Wave S EBN claims 110 km, all under ARAI IDC conditions.
What motor does the Simple Wave use, and why is chain drive significant?
+The Wave uses a PMSM motor with a chain-drive transmission rather than the hub motor found on most Indian electric scooters. Chain drive allows the motor to be mounted on the frame rather than the wheel, which Simple Energy says improves torque delivery and reduces unsprung weight. The Wave Plus motor produces 179 Nm of wheel torque.
What makes the Simple Wave's storage claim of 70 litres unique?
+The 70 litres is split across three compartments: a 63-litre underseat storage unit, a 3-litre glovebox at the front, and the Pill, a 4-litre auxiliary storage compartment built into the left side panel. The Pill is described as an industry first and is designed for quick-access items like documents, a small bag, or a charger cable.
How fast does the Simple Wave charge?
+The Wave Plus supports fast charging to 0-80 percent in 2 hours 15 minutes. All variants come with a 750W portable charger for standard home charging.
What is GripSense on the Simple Wave?
+GripSense is Simple Energy's proprietary traction control system. It monitors rear wheel movement and intervenes to cut motor output and prevent wheel slip on wet or loose surfaces. It is available on select higher variants.
What is Drop Safe on the Simple Wave?
+Drop Safe is a tip-over detection feature that cuts motor power instantly if the scooter falls, preventing the throttle from accidentally engaging and causing injury or further damage.
What is Super Hold on the Simple Wave?
+Super Hold is Simple Energy's hill hold function, equivalent to Hill Hold on rival scooters. It automatically holds the scooter stationary on inclines and basement ramps without the rider needing to apply the brake. It is available on select variants.
What is the Hushdrive system on the Simple Wave?
+Hushdrive is Simple Energy's patented transmission noise reduction system for the chain-drive setup. The company claims it reduces chain-drive noise to the point where the ride remains as quiet as hub-drive rivals.
What are the braking specs of the Simple Wave?
+All variants use a front disc and rear drum setup with a Combined Braking System as standard. Simple Energy has not published specific disc size figures in the official brochure or press release at launch.
Does the Simple Wave support OTA updates?
+Yes. Over-the-air updates are supported across TFT variants via the Simple Connect app.
What connectivity features does the Simple Wave offer?
+TFT variants get a 7-inch TFT display with built-in MapTech navigation, push navigation from phone to dash, live location sharing via Super Share, Find My Scooter GPS tracking, Ping My Scooter, call and music controls, and message alerts. All is managed through the Simple Connect app. EBN variants get the InfiniteBlack proprietary display with a more limited connected feature set.
What warranty does the Simple Wave come with?
+The vehicle warranty is 3 years or 30,000 km, whichever comes first. Battery and motor are covered by the same 3-year or 30,000 km warranty, with an extended option of 5 years or 50,000 km available. The portable charger carries a 3-year or 20,000 km warranty.
