The Volvo XC90 was the brand's flagship three-row SUV in India and combined a minimalist Scandinavian design with seven-seat practicality. Its exterior featured Thor's Hammer LED headlights, a large grille and clean, upright proportions, while the cabin offered leather upholstery, a large touchscreen, digital instrumentation, panoramic sunroof, four-zone climate control, powered seats and premium Bowers & Wilkins audio.

Over its Indian run, the XC90 was available with petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The later B6 used a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 300 hp and 420 Nm, paired with an automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive, while the T8 plug-in hybrid combined the petrol engine with an electric motor for considerably higher output.

Volvo's safety package included multiple airbags, collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, lane assistance, blind-spot monitoring, Pilot Assist and a 360-degree camera.

This generation was discontinued in India in March 2025 when the updated XC90 arrived.
