The MG ZS EV 2020-2022 model was among the earlier mainstream electric SUVs sold in India. It used a 44.5kWh battery paired with a permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing 140.8bhp and 350Nm. Its claimed range was 419km, while charging through an AC home charger took roughly 6-8 hours.

It had the footprint and driving position of a conventional compact SUV, but the absence of an engine gave the cabin a quieter character. Equipment included an 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, 17-inch alloy wheels and connected-car functions. The ZS EV also had a relatively straightforward five-seat layout with a 448-litre boot.

MG discontinued this version and subsequently introduced an updated ZS EV with a larger battery and increased range.
