Jeep Compass Overview

Updated on April 8, 2026

The Jeep Compass brings the brand’s off-road heritage into a family-oriented package. The current model combines Jeep’s signature 7-slot grille design with a modern SUV shape suited to Indian roads.

It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 170 hp and 350 Nm, paired with 6-speed manual or 9-speed automatic transmissions. The engine supports long-distance touring with a 60-litre fuel tank.

Inside, the cabin uses soft-touch materials and offers upholstery options ranging from techno leather to full leather. Features include a Uconnect touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, and wireless charging.

Safety wise, equipment includes up to 6 airbags, electronic stability control, roll mitigation, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX anchors.

Overall, the Compass focuses on refined diesel performance, premium interior quality, and everyday usability.

Engine and Performance

The Compass is powered by a 2.0-litre Multijet II turbocharged diesel engine, which produces 170 hp at 3750 rpm and 350 Nm of torque between 1750 and 2500 rpm.

Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic, with most variants offering a choice between the two. Drive configuration is 4x2 on most variants, while 4x4 is available on select variants, it comes only paired with the 9-speed automatic.

fuel economy

The Compass returns ARAI-certified fuel efficiency ranging between 14.9 and 17.1 kmpl, depending on the transmission and drivetrain.

The 6-speed manual 4x2 variant returns 17.1 kmpl, while the 9-speed automatic 4x2 version is rated at around 16.2 kmpl and the 4x4 automatic at 14.9 kmpl.

In addition, the fuel tank has a capacity of 60-litre.

interior

The dashboard of the Compass uses soft-touch materials on the instrument panel and front door trims, including a digital instrument cluster ranging from 3.5 inches in base variants to 10.2 inches in higher ones. The steering wheel, leather-wrapped on higher variants, integrates audio and cruise controls.

Infotainment is handled by the Uconnect system with an 8.4-inch or 10.1-inch touchscreen. It supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth streaming, USB ports, and a 12V outlet. Also, higher trims add navigation, voice commands, and an Alpine sound system with amplifier and subwoofer.

Seating upholstery ranges from techno leather to full leather with contrast inserts. The front seats offer driver height adjustment, while higher trims provide 8-way power adjustment with memory and ventilation.

Meanwhile, the rear bench features 60/40 split-folding, an armrest with cup holders, rear AC vents, and a parcel shelf on most variants.

Other features include wireless charging and a connected car suite via the Jeep app, offering remote lock/unlock, vehicle health monitoring, driving history, geofencing, over-the-air updates, and SOS messaging.

exterior

The Compass measures 4405 mm in length, 1818 mm in width, and 1640 mm in height, with a 2636 mm wheelbase, giving it a planted stance. The front features Jeep’s signature seven-slot grille, finished in matte or chrome depending on the variant.

This grille is flanked by LED headlamps available in reflector or projector units with daytime running lamps. The fascia also includes cornering fog lamps and a sculpted bonnet.

Along the sides, the Compass rides on 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels and gets electrically adjustable ORVMs with integrated turn indicators. Depending on the trim, it also features bright or piano-black roof rails and body-coloured claddings.

A dual-pane sunroof and rain-sensing front wipers are also available on many variants.

At the rear, the Compass gets a roof spoiler, shark-fin antenna, and a clean tailgate design, with an available power liftgate. Higher variants also feature LED tail lamps.

safety

The body structure of the Compass incorporates high-strength steel for improved rigidity. Accordingly, the updated European model received a 4-star rating from Euro NCAP in 2025. Note that the India-spec model has not yet been tested by Bharat NCAP yet.

Safety equipment across all variants includes disc brakes on all four wheels, ISOFIX child seat anchors, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control (ESC). It also features electronic roll mitigation, traction control, hill-start assist, and a passenger airbag on/off switch.

Meanwhile, higher variants add up to 6 airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and an electronic parking brake with auto hold.

However, the Indian Compass does not offer ADAS such as autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, or adaptive cruise control.

competition

The Compass competes against the Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV700 in its segment.

The Harrier provides more rear cabin and boot space, along with features such as a larger touchscreen and ADAS. Conversely, the Compass has a more powerful 2.0-litre diesel engine and frequency-selective damping suspension. Also unlike the 4x2 Harrier, the Compass is available with 4x4 hardware and Selec-Terrain modes for off-road use.

The XUV700 offers a more powerful 2.2-litre diesel engine with higher torque, a broader range of ADAS, and an optional 7-seat configuration. The Compass, however, has a smaller footprint for easier maneuvering in city conditions and uses different interior cabin materials.
