Skoda’s latest compact SUV, the Kylaq has sold over 30,000 units since its deliveries commenced in January this year. With 30,190 units sold from January to August 2025, it has become Skoda's top-selling car, accounting for 65% of the Czech manufacturer’s total sales of 46,616 vehicles. The Kylaq has outperformed models like the Slavia (8,653 units) and Kushaq (7,212 units), having sold 5,364 units in March 2025 alone.
There are many factors behind this success, from market trends to the Kylaq's design, performance, safety, and pricing.
Design and Compact SUV Trend
The compact SUV market in India has been booming, with over 2 million units sold yearly. Young buyers in cities want small, fuel-saving vehicles for daily drives and weekend trips. The Kylaq fits this criteria perfectly, offering a size suited for crowded roads while providing enough room for families.
The Kylaq’s design is surely a strong point, featuring a wide grille, sharp LED headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. It looks bold yet classy, and at 3,768 mm long, it offers a spacious 446-litre boot, expandable to 1,265 litres by folding the split rear seats down, making it attractive for buyers upgrading from hatchbacks.
Impressive Performance, Powertrains, and Dynamics
The Kylaq's 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine is one of the strongest in its class, producing 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque, and is mated to a six-speed manual or torque converter automatic gearbox. This engine delivers quick acceleration, reaching 0-100 km/h in under 11 seconds, with a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.68 km/l for the manual version.
Its strong build quality, precise handling and great high-speed stability on highways, thanks to the MQB-A0-IN platform, make it a driver’s delight.
Safety
The Kylaq has earned a solid 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, scoring over 30 points in adult occupant protection and 45 points in child protection. Standard features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, and ESC make it a safe choice for families, standing out in a segment where some rivals fall short.
Great Value for Money Mid Variants

The Kylaq's lower and mid variants, like Signature and Signature+, are packed with features.
Its Signature variant, priced just under ₹9 lakh ex-showroom, offers strong value with 16-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, four speakers, and two tweeters. Comfort features include cruise control, rear AC vents, a cooled glovebox, tilt-and-telescopic steering, a dual-tone interior with fabric seats and USB Type-C ports.
The Signature+ variant, starting at about ₹10.3 lakh ex-showroom, enhances value with a larger 10-inch touchscreen offering wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with an 8-inch digital driver’s display. It gets hill-hold assist on the safety front. Other added features include automatic climate control, keyless entry, power-folding mirrors, a rear armrest, 60:40 split seats, auto headlights, and an optional sunroof, paired with a 360-litre boot, delivering premium appeal for cost-conscious buyers.
Pricing
Pricing is the Kylaq's biggest strength. Recent GST rate cuts have led to lowered prices across the lineup. The entry-level Classic variant now starts at ₹7.50 lakh ex-showroom, making the Kylaq affordable for first-time car buyers who may have once found Skoda's pricier models like the Kushaq or Slavia out of reach.
The Kylaq is also attracting buyers who might have chosen the Kushaq 1.0L variants. Since both share the same TSI engine, many may have opted for the Kylaq's feature-rich mid or top trims at a lower price, boosting Skoda's sales without hurting overall numbers.
With the Kylaq, Skoda aims to double its India market share to 3% by the end of 2025. Selling over 30,000 units, it has won buyers with its mix of style, performance, safety, and value.
