- Expected Powertrains And Performance
The Tata Safari EV has been caught testing for the first time on Indian roads. Spy shots have revealed what appears to be a Harrier EV rear suspension setup. Expected to be the manufacturer’s flagship electric SUV, the three row model will go up against the Mahindra XEV 9S.
Besides the Harrier EV-like suspension setup, a side step is also visible on the test vehicle which doesn’t come in the Safari ICE models. While the SUV’s design appears to be the same as the standard Safari, the EV inspired independent multi-link rear suspension setup and the absence of an exhaust tip confirms that it is the electric version of the Safari
However, it is most likely to share underpinnings with the Acti.ev+ platform of Harrier EV which is the current flagship EV from Tata.

While the camouflage conceals most styling details, the Tata Safari EV is expected to look similar to its ICE sibling except for revised front and rear bumpers, a new set of alloy wheels and EV specific badging. The overall dimensions are also expected to remain largely unchanged.
The interior, on the other hand, is also most likely to be the same as the ICE version but with a EV inspired cabin theme like other EVs from the manufacturer. However, it is expected to feature TiDAL (Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer) E&E architecture which allows access to features like auto park assist and summon mode, UPI based in-car payment services, low speed cruise control, 540 degree surround view camera system, and over the air (OTA) updates.
Expected Powertrains And Performance
Like the Harrier EV, it is expected to incorporate the same battery and motor configurations. While the official specs remain undisclosed, the Tata Safari EV is expected to feature the same 65kWh and 75kWh battery from the Harrier EV.
The dual motor AWD option, on the other hand, is exclusive only to the larger battery pack variants. That said, the Safari EV is expected to share the same platform with Harrier EV which churns out 238 hp and 315 Nm in the rear wheel drive version.

The AWD variant adds another 116 hp from the front motor and the total torque is a colossal 504 Nm. Nonetheless, the Safari EV is expected to offer a shorter claimed range, owing to its larger size.
As per some reports, the Tata Safari EV is expected to launch in India during the festive season this year. The production of the Safari EV is reportedly scheduled to start by August 2026 and it will sit at the top of their electric car line up.
