Hyundai's Upcoming Compact Electric SUV Set for January 2027 Debut

Quick Read - Hyundai’s compact electric SUV is expected to debut in January 2027 with Standard Range and Long Range options, Level 2 ADAS and a new infotainment system. It will rival the Tata Punch EV, Nexon EV and Kia Syros EV.

Hyundai's upcoming sub-four-metre electric SUV is expected to make its India debut in January 2027. It is part of Hyundai's plan to introduce 26 models by 2030.

Codenamed HE1i, it is being developed specifically for India and will be manufactured at Hyundai's Sriperumbudur plant in Tamil Nadu.

Here are all of its expected features and other key details.

Expected Platform and Battery

The Hyundai compact EV will use the E-GMP (K) platform, which also underpins the Hyundai Inster EV sold internationally. Unlike models converted from petrol or diesel platforms, this SUV has been developed as a dedicated electric vehicle.

It could borrow its powertrain options from the Kia Syros EV. These include a 42kWh battery pack producing 135bhp and 255Nm, and a larger 51kWh pack delivering 170bhp and 255Nm.

For reference, the international Hyundai Inster is offered with 42kWh and 49kWh batteries, producing 97hp and 115hp, respectively. Its claimed WLTP range stands at up to 300km for the Standard Range and 355km for the Long Range version. The India-bound SUV could differ.

Expected Features

Hyundai has confirmed that the upcoming electric SUV will receive Level 2 ADAS and a next-generation infotainment system. Spy shots have also revealed a centre touchscreen that could use the brand's Pleos Connect system.

Other possible features include a panoramic glass roof, ventilated seats and a 360-degree camera. However, Hyundai has yet to confirm the complete equipment list for the India-spec model.

A test vehicle was also spotted near a 120kW DC fast charger. This does not confirm the SUV's maximum charging rate, however it could support DC fast charging at more than 60kW.
