BYD India has officially announced the launch of its first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle for the Indian market on June 9. The company is expected to introduce either the Atto 2 or the Sealion 6.

Here's everything you need to know:

Atto 2

The Atto 2 DM-i features a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, available with two battery options.

The 7.8 kWh battery variant produces 166 hp and offers a claimed combined WLTP range of up to 928 km, while the larger 18 kWh battery model delivers 212 hp with a combined range of up to 998 km.

The electric-only range for the 2026 Atto 2 is expected to be up to 39 km.

It is positioned to compete closely with popular SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.

Sealion 6

The Sealion 6 is the other PHEV likely to launch, hitting the sweet spot between the Atto 2 and its larger sibling, the Sealion 7 EV. We recently covered the spy shots of it during its test sighting in India.

It comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated or turbo petrol engine options paired to either an 18.3 kWh or a 26.6 kWh battery.

The naturally aspirated PHEV produces a combined 218 hp in a FWD setup, offering a claimed range of up to 140 km.

Meanwhile, the turbo petrol variant features an AWD setup and packs more power, rated at 344 hp, and a claimed range of up to 128 km.

Overall, BYD claims a huge combined range of up to 1,092 km for the Sealion 6.
