After a chaotic Monaco GP, Formula 1 heads to Barcelona for the Spanish Grand Prix, which will take place on Sunday, 14 June at 6:30 PM IST at the iconic Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
Teams know this track extremely well because it has served as the primary location for pre-season testing for many years. This gives every squad valuable data on car setup, tyre behaviour, and aerodynamics even before the season begins.
The 4.657 km circuit offers a perfect mix of high-speed corners, technical sections, and long straights, making it an excellent all-round test of performance.
Monaco GP 2026 Results
| Pos | Driver | Team |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kimi Antonelli | Mercedes |
| 2 | Lewis Hamilton | Ferrari |
| 3 | Isack Hadjar | Red Bull |
Kimi Antonelli seems unstoppable, as he dominated the streets of Monaco to claim his fifth win of the season in a chaotic race filled with incidents, penalties, and retirements.
Max Verstappen and Lando Norris retired after reliability issues in their cars, while home hero Charles Leclerc found the barrier due to a brake failure at the Safety Car Restart.
Lewis Hamilton delivered a strong drive for Ferrari to finish second, while Isack Hadjar scored his first podium for Red Bull.
F1 Drivers' and Teams' Championship Standings after Monaco GP
| Pos | Driver Standings | Driver Points | Team Standings | Team Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kimi Antonelli | 156 | Mercedes | 244 |
| 2 | Lewis Hamilton | 90 | Ferrari | 165 |
| 3 | George Russell | 88 | McLaren | 118 |
| 4 | Charles Leclerc | 75 | Red Bull | 72 |
| 5 | Oscar Piastri | 60 | Alpine | 41 |
After the dramatic Monaco weekend, Mercedes and Kimi Antonelli continue to lead the way out front, and with a comfortable gap to the competition.
Another pointless race for George Russell saw Hamilton overtaking him for second place in the drivers' championship.
Russell and Leclerc have dropped to third and fourth respectively, while Oscar Piastri enters the top 5.
Spanish GP 2026 Preview
It is worth remembering that the Spanish GP will be the first traditional race weekend since the early season regulation changes in Miami, for teams to fully understand their cars.
Both the Miami and Canada GPs were Sprint weekends with just a single practice session, and Monaco due to its narrow characteristics does not make for an ideal track to test the car's full potential.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya should bring relief to most, if not all teams, since this is a venue that hosts winter testing every year. As a result, both drivers and teams know this track very well, helping make performance comparisons easier.
However, the new regulations mean that teams don't have any data from previous years to go by, which could still make things interesting.
Truth to be told, Mercedes, having a dominant record at this circuit, are expected to be the favourites yet again, with the fight likely to be for second or third between Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull.
Though, we are yet to see the full extent of how Mercedes's engine compression ratio loophole being banned will affect their performance on a traditional race track unlike Monaco, which was not very power dependant.
