This is an exciting time for retro motorcycle enthusiasts in India, with two iconic British names, BSA and Triumph, firing fresh salvos in the mid-capacity market. While BSA has finally taken the wraps off its dirt-capable Scrambler 650 with reviving the iconic Bantam nametag, Triumph is all set to launch its next big offering tomorrow, the Thruxton 400, which has already started arriving at dealerships ahead of its official debut tomorrow.
The BSA Scrambler 650 marks a serious shift from the brand’s earlier strategy. After the Gold Star failed to impress Indian buyers against the likes of Royal Enfield’s 650 twins, BSA seems to have learned from its missteps, or maybe not (price). Whatever the case is, we won’t deny their serious effort as the Scrambler 650, although based on the same 652cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 45hp and 55Nm, is purpose-built for mixed terrain.

With a taller 820mm seat height, a longer 1,463mm wheelbase, a larger 19-inch front wheel, and Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres, this isn’t just a visual scrambler. It’s engineered to go off-road. The overall package makes it a direct rival to Royal Enfield’s Bear 650, the lightweight and expectedly less expensive Guerrilla 450, and even Triumph’s Scrambler 400 X and XC twins.
Whether it’s the BSA’s heritage-rich branding, capable geometry, or its rugged stance, it wants a real shot at India’s booming adventure-retro market. However, much will depend on how aggressively it’s priced. Ideally, under ₹3.3 lakh ex-showroom would be a sweet spot.
Meanwhile, Triumph Motorcycles is preparing to launch the third model in its 400cc lineup, the Thruxton 400, a café racer-styled machine that shares its underpinnings with the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X. https://cdn.carhp.innews/c18b10bf-1ea3-4199-9619-7c7539328f31.png
Designed with signature Thruxton Caferacer DNA, it features clip-on handlebars, rear-set footpegs, and a sculpted tank with a café-style cowled tail section. The bike is powered by the same 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that delivers 39.5hp and 37.5Nm.

As we can see in the leaked images, what sets the Thruxton 400 apart is its focused ergonomics and visual throwback to classic British café racers, making it an appealing option for enthusiasts who want a more aggressive streetbike without compromising on everyday usability. With bikes already arriving at showrooms, expectations are high for a sub-₹2.90 lakh ex-showroom price, which would position it as a strong alternative to the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and even Honda’s CB350RS in urban markets.
In essence, the retro motorcycling landscape in India is undergoing rapid transformation. With BSA returning to form with a capable scrambler and Triumph doubling down on its 400cc success story, buyers now have more meaningful choices than ever. Whether you lean toward the off-road-ready charm of the Scrambler 650 or the aggressive street flair of the Thruxton 400, one thing is clear. 2025 is going to be a thrilling year for fans of retro-styled motorcycles with substance.
