This variant is targeted at buyers seeking the sporty 450S with a longer range, without the need to stretch budget for the more premium 450X.

Key Changes

Just like its name suggests, the Ather 450S 3.7 gets a larger 3.7 kWh battery pack. This battery upgrade boosts the IDC-certified range from 116 km on the 2.9 kWh to 160 km. Performance is unchanged at 5.4 kW (7.2 hp) and 22 Nm of torque, with a 0-40 km/h time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 90 km/h. The 450S 3.7 offers four ride modes - Smart Eco, Eco, Ride, and Sport.

On the design front, the 450S 3.7 remains identical to the standard 450S, which is nothing to complain about, as its sleek and premium look is pleasant to the eyes.

The Ather 450S 3.7 competes with rivals such as the Ola S1 Pro, Bajaj Chetak, Honda Activa e, TVS iQube, and the Ather Rizta.

rizta s vs ather 450s

Ather 450S 3.7 and Rizta S 3.7 cater to distinct audiences with their unique designs and market positioning. The 450S 3.7 is a sporty, performance-oriented scooter from Ather’s 450 series, targeting younger urban riders who value agility and style. Its sharp and compact design emphasizes dynamic handling, making it ideal for navigating city traffic. The 450S 3.7 slots in between the 450S 2.9 and the 450X 2.9.

In contrast, the Rizta S 3.7, priced at ₹1.37 lakh, is Ather’s family-focused offering, designed for practicality and comfort. Its larger, boxier frame, longer seat, and substantial 34-litre underseat storage (expandable by 22 litres with a frunk) make it a practical choice for families and daily commuters seeking space and versatility. It is positioned between the Rizta S 2.9 and the Rizta Z 2.9.

Performance

In terms of performance, the Ather 450S 3.7 outshines the Rizta S 3.7, aligning with its sporty ethos. Its 5.4 kW (7.2 hp) motor delivering 22 Nm of torque accelerates from 0-40 km/h in 3.9 seconds, achieving a top speed of 90 km/h. Its four ride modes - Smart Eco, Eco, Ride, and Sport - offer versatility for efficiency or thrill.

The Rizta S 3.7, while producing an identical 22 Nm torque, is tuned for family use, with a lower top speed of 80 km/h and fewer ride modes (Smart Eco and Zip) that prioritize range over outright performance.

Range

Although featuring the same 3.7 kWh battery, the 450S 3.7 slightly edges out the Rizta S 3.7, with an IDC-certified range of 161 km, making it suitable for longer urban commutes. The Rizta S 3.7, with a claimed range of 159 km, is nearly as capable but may deliver a real-world range closer to 125 km, based on the Rizta Z 3.7’s performance.

Both models benefit from Ather’s extensive fast-charging network, with the 450S gaining up to 15 km per 10 minutes of charging, while the Rizta takes 6-8 hours for a full charge at home.

Features

The Rizta S 3.7 offers a richer feature set tailored for family convenience, while the 450S 3.7 focuses on essentials for performance riders. The Rizta includes a 7-inch DeepView LCD with navigation, AutoHold, Skid Control, Fall Safe, Emergency Stop Signal, Alexa integration, and a wireless charger for the Ather Halo helmet. Its OTA (Over-the-air) updates ensure future-proofing.

The 450S 3.7 is equipped with a 7-inch LCD dashboard with navigation, hill-hold, Fall Safe, and OTA updates, but lacks advanced safety features such as Skid Control.

Both scooters offer Ather’s Eight70 warranty (8 years/80,000 km, 70% battery health), ensuring long-term reliability.

Practicality and Storage

The 450S 3.7 is designed for performance and agility and is ideal for solo riders navigating busy urban environments. While its compact dimensions and sporty handling ensure ease of use in traffic, its storage capacity is limited, likely around 10-15 litres (not officially specified), best suited for small items like a phone, wallet, or small bag at most.

The lack of significant storage and a focus on performance over utility make it less practical for family-oriented tasks or carrying larger loads, such as groceries or school bags.

The Rizta S 3.7, on the other hand, excels in practicality and is tailor-made for family commuters. It offers a substantial 34-litre underseat storage, capable of holding two half-face helmets or equivalent cargo, plus an additional 22-litre frunk, totaling 56 litres of storage. This makes it highly suitable for daily errands, such as grocery shopping or carrying school supplies.

The longer, more comfortable seat accommodates two adults with ease, making the Rizta far more practical for family and utility-focused commuting.

Prices and Value

Priced at ₹1.37 lakh, the Rizta S 3.7 offers better value for family buyers, with savings worth ₹9,000 over the 450S 3.7. The Rizta’s superior storage and extensive feature list, including Skid Control and Alexa, enhance its appeal for practical commuters.

The 450S 3.7, though pricier at ₹1.46 lakh, justifies its cost with superior performance, a marginally longer range, and a sporty ride, appealing to enthusiasts. However, its lower price and family-focused utility make it a stronger value proposition for most buyers, which is reflected in the Rizta S 2.9’s sales numbers.
