The Fiat Palio D was the diesel version of the Palio equipped with a 1.9-litre naturally aspirated diesel engine. The engine produced around 65 bhp and 120 Nm and was paired with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Unlike the later 1.3-litre MultiJet, this was a relatively simple mechanically injected diesel that delivered strong low-speed pulling power.

The Palio D was sold in India through the early and mid-2000s and was available in variants such as EL PS, ELX and ELX SP. It retained the Palio's five-door hatchback body, five-seat cabin and front-wheel-drive layout.

The 1.9-litre engine gave the car a noticeably different character from the smaller petrol versions, while hydraulic power steering and features such as power windows and rear defogging were available on higher versions.

Engine and Performance

The Fiat Palio D came with a large 1.9-liter diesel engine. This motor was very big for a hatchback in those days. It had a total size of 1910cc. This engine did not have a turbocharger to boost its speed. It produced about 63 bhp of power and 118 Nm of torque. The car used a 5-speed manual gearbox to send power to the front wheels. Many owners liked it because the engine felt strong and solid for highway driving. However, the engine was quite heavy compared to other cars in the same segment. The Fiat Palio D offered a mileage of around 12.9 kmpl. This motor was known for its long life, but it was also a bit noisy. The 1.9-liter engine made this model a unique choice for diesel car buyers in India during its time.

interior

The Fiat Palio D offered a very practical and spacious cabin for its time. It could easily seat 5 people with good legroom and shoulder room. The seats were covered in basic fabric and felt quite soft for daily use. This model had a simple dashboard made of hard plastic that was easy to clean. The higher variants came with front power windows and power steering to help the driver. There were no digital screens or fancy buttons in the Fiat Palio D. It used basic knobs for the air conditioning system and a clear instrument cluster to show speed. The wide body of the car meant that three adults could sit in the back comfortably. Storage spaces like door pockets and a glove box helped keep things tidy. Overall, the interior focused on comfort and simple utility for Indian families.

exterior

The Fiat Palio D has a solid and basic design. This car is a 5-door hatchback. It looks very strong and heavy. The car is 3735 mm long and 1614 mm wide. It has a height of 1445 mm. The front part has clear headlights and a small grille. This model has body-colored bumpers on some versions. The side has smooth lines and black door handles. It uses 13-inch wheels. The back of the car is flat with vertical lights. This model was famous for its thick metal sheets. It felt safer than many other small cars. The design is clean and easy to look at. This car does not have sharp edges. It has a simple look from the early 2000s. People liked its design. It was a practical car for city roads. This hatchback has a ground clearance of 170 mm for bumpy roads.

competition

The Fiat Palio D faced strong competition in the Indian car market between 2003 and 2007. Its main rival was the Tata Indica V2 diesel. The Indica was very popular because it had more space and many service centers across the country. Another big competitor was the Maruti Suzuki Zen diesel. Maruti cars were famous for easy repairs and high resale value. This model also competed with the Hyundai Santro, which was a top choice for small families. During its time, the car struggled against these brands because of service issues. Many buyers chose the Indica or Zen because spare parts were cheaper and easier to find. While this model felt strong and safe, its price of 2.23 lakh to 2.42 lakh rupees made it hard to beat its rivals. These competitors offered better mileage and a wider reach in small cities.
