Ferrari 296 speciale Overview

Ferrari unveiled the 296 Speciale as the next step up from the 296 GTB, with first prototypes already spotted testing in Maranello in late 2025. This limited edition model is expected to be produced in very low numbers, likely under 500 units globally, with India allocation expected for late 2026 or early 2027 deliveries.
It builds on the 296 GTB’s plug-in hybrid architecture but adds significant weight reduction, aerodynamic improvements, and chassis upgrades to deliver a more intense driving experience. The Speciale sits above the standard 296 GTB and targets buyers who want track level performance on the road.
It will retain the 3.0 litre twin turbo V6 and electric motor setup but with more power and sharper dynamics, making it one of the most exciting mid engine Ferraris for enthusiasts in India.
engine and performance
The 296 Speciale is expected to use an upgraded version of the 3.0 litre twin turbo V6 hybrid powertrain found in the standard 296 GTB. Reports suggest the combined output could increase to around 850 to 880 hp through revisions to the engine, electric motor, and battery management systems.
The electric motor will remain mounted between the engine and the 8 speed dual clutch gearbox, providing instant torque and smooth hybrid power delivery. Instead of increasing battery size, Ferrari is expected to focus on reducing weight and improving aerodynamics to enhance the power to weight ratio and overall performance.
interior
Inside, the Ferrari 296 Speciale will focus heavily on weight reduction while maintaining a premium feel. Expect extensive carbon fibre on the dashboard, door panels, and centre console, along with Alcantara upholstery and lightweight bucket seats that support six point harnesses for track use. The digital instrument cluster and central touchscreen from the standard 296 GTB will remain, but with performance focused graphics and track specific displays. The Alcantara wrapped steering wheel will feature carbon fibre shift paddles and a minimalist control layout to keep the driver fully engaged.
While climate control and infotainment will still be present, sound insulation and certain luxury features are likely to be reduced to keep the car as light and focused as possible.
exterior
The 296 Speciale features a more aggressive and aero focused exterior compared to the standard 296 GTB. Test prototypes show a larger front splitter, revised air intakes, and additional carbon fibre elements designed to increase downforce. The rear wing is expected to be more prominent with adjustable elements, while the diffuser is redesigned to improve high speed stability.
Lightweight materials such as carbon fibre will be used extensively across body panels, roof sections, and wheels to cut weight by an estimated 50 to 70 kg. The overall silhouette remains sleek and mid engine with the signature teardrop shape, but the Speciale adds sharper design lines, new side skirts, and a more pronounced rear wing that gives it a track ready stance.
Exclusive colours and carbon fibre accents will further highlight its limited edition status.

safety
The Ferrari 296 Speciale will retain most of the safety technologies seen in the standard 296 GTB, including multiple airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, and advanced braking systems.
Performance oriented driver assistance features will likely include track tuned ABS calibration, adjustable traction control levels, and enhanced stability modes for circuit driving. The lightweight chassis made from carbon fibre and aluminium provides strong structural protection while maintaining low weight.
Active aerodynamic components will also play a role in maintaining stability at very high speeds.
final verdict
The 296 Speciale will compete with high performance mid engine supercars such as the McLaren Artura, Porsche 911 Turbo S, and Lamborghini Temerario and Maserati Grantursimo.
