The Daewoo Nexia was introduced as the successor to the Cielo and brought a more powerful engine and updated equipment to Daewoo's sedan range. It retained the familiar four-door, five-seat layout but used a 1.5-litre 16-valve petrol engine producing around 90 bhp, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox.

The cabin offered air-conditioning, power steering, power windows and other equipment that helped it compete with established mid-size sedans.

The Nexia arrived in India during a period when Daewoo was expanding its local range, but its sales remained modest compared with the Cielo and Matiz.

Daewoo's financial problems eventually ended the company's Indian operations, and the Nexia was discontinued in 2002 without a direct successor.

Engine and Performance

The Daewoo Nexia came with a powerful 1.5-litre petrol engine. This four-cylinder motor was very strong for its time and produced 93 bhp. It also gave a torque of 132 Nm, which helped the car pick up speed quickly. The car used a 5-speed manual gearbox to manage this power. Many owners liked this model because it felt smooth and fast on long drives. However, the fuel efficiency was low for Indian conditions. It gave a mileage of about 9.5 kmpl, making it expensive for daily travel. This engine was based on simple technology, making it easy to maintain for many years. Even though the car is no longer on sale, people still talk about its solid engine performance. It provided a comfortable drive for families and stayed very stable at higher speeds on the road.

interior

The Daewoo Nexia offered a simple and spacious cabin for its time. Inside the car, 5 people could sit comfortably on fabric seats. The dashboard design was very basic and easy to use for every driver. It came with important features like air conditioning and power steering to make trips better. You also got power windows in some versions for more convenience. The interior used grey plastic parts that were common in cars during the late 1990s. This model had enough legroom for rear passengers, which made it a good choice for Indian families. Large windows helped the cabin feel open and bright. While the car focused on utility, the seats provided good support for long drives. Even though it is an old model now, the controls are easy to find. This sedan also provided a large trunk to carry many bags.

exterior

The Daewoo Nexia was a sedan with a simple and clean design. It looked like the Cielo but had some changes to make it look fresh. The car had a long body with a big boot space at the back. Its front had large headlights and a small grille. The sides of the car were flat with straight lines and black strips on the doors. This model used 13-inch wheels and had standard door handles. The rear look was basic with rectangular tail lights and a wide bumper. It had a classic three-box shape that many families liked at that time. The body was made of solid metal which made it feel strong on the road. Even though the design was old, it looked very neat. This model offered a practical look for middle-class Indian buyers who wanted a big car.

competition

The Daewoo Nexia faced tough competition in the Indian sedan market during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Its biggest rival was the Honda City, which many buyers liked for its fast engine. Another strong competitor was the Maruti Suzuki Esteem. This car was very popular because Maruti had many service centers across India. The Mitsubishi Lancer also attracted buyers with its stylish looks. Other cars like the Opel Astra and the Ford Ikon were sold in the same price range of around 6 lakh rupees. Later, the Hyundai Accent entered the market and became a very strong challenger for the car. Most of these rivals had better spare parts availability than this model. This car found it difficult to compete with so many established brands. These 6 or 7 competitors eventually made it hard for the car to stay successful.
