Non Fastag Users Now Have To Pay More Cash/UPI Payments[Updated]

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has revised toll collection rules to promote digital payments and reduce congestion at toll plazas. Previously, all non-FASTag vehicles were charged double the toll, no matter how they paid.

Under the new system, vehicles paying via UPI or other digital methods will pay 1.25 times the FASTag rate. Cash users will als onow have to pay less.

This tiered approach gives drivers a digital alternative while discouraging slow cash transactions. With over 7 crore FASTags issued and 97 percent of tolls already digital, FASTag remains the most efficient option. Motorists are advised to keep their FASTag active and recharged to avoid extra costs.

Example: If a toll plaza charges ₹100 for FASTag users, a UPI payment will cost ₹125, while cash payment will be ₹200. Users can also opt for annual Fastag pass which costs 3000 annually

Payment MethodToll Rate Compared to FASTagExample (FASTag ₹100)
UPI / Digital1.25x₹125
Cash1.25x (previously 2X)₹125
