- Hyundai Tucson scores 5-star safety in both Adult & Child Protection
- BNCAP tested the Signature AT Petrol variant of the Tucson weighing 1828 Kgs.
It looks like it’s a 5-star safety season in the Indian car market, and the Hyundai Tucson is the latest to join the club! In the latest BNCAP (Bharat NCAP) crash tests, the Tucson has scored 5 stars in adult and child occupant protection.
As per the BNCAP results, the Tucson scored a solid 30.84 out of 32 for adult protection and 41.00 out of 49 for child protection. However, these numbers are not as great as the recently tested Thar Roxx, which comes at a significantly lower price tag and gets a body-on-frame construction.

However, in the front offset impact test, the driver’s protection was rated as good, but there were a couple of areas, like the chest and feet, that were marked as only adequately safe. Still, overall, the safety rating for the occupant was “Good” across the board, which is great.
The Tucson also did really well in the Side Pole Impact Test and the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test, achieving “Good” remarks in both tests. These tests check how well the car protects passengers in a side collision, and the Tucson passed them without any issues.

However, one thing to note is that BNCAP doesn’t provide the public are the child safety reports, unlike other agencies like GNCAP. So, we don’t have the exact details about how well the Tucson protects kids, which could be important for some buyers.

All in all, for an SUV that costs around ₹30 lakh, the Hyundai Tucson has done pretty well in these crash tests. The 5-star safety rating is definitely a strong selling point for this SUV.
But, there are still a few features that Hyundai should consider offering as standard, like the knee airbag and side-head-thorax airbags. These are important safety features that should be included, even in the base models for such a premium SUV.
